Home buyer government grants and rebates

A little boost can go a long way

Looking for some extra financial support to help you fast-track your home ownership goals? Whether buying or building a new home, there are various federal and state government grants and rebates to consider. To help you get started with your search, below is a list of available schemes. Your financial advisor may be able to help you determine if you’re eligible for one.

Federal home buying grants and schemes 

There are several federal government home buyer grants and schemes available to help you get your foot on the property ladder. Speak to your financial advisor if you need help determining your eligibility.

  • Helps eligible first home buyers purchase a home with as little as 5% deposit, without paying Lenders Mortgage Insurance.
  • Any Guarantee of a home loan is for up to a maximum amount of 15% of the value of the property, as assessed by a Participating Lender.
  • 35,000 Guarantee places are available each financial year, between FY2023-24.
  • Maximum purchase prices, other terms and eligibility criteria apply - available until 30 June 2024.

Government grants and rebates, state by state 

Depending on where you’re looking to buy or build your new home, you could consider government grants administered across various Australian states. While eligibility requirements and grant amounts vary, your financial advisor may be able to help you determine if there’s something suitable for you.

Grant name: First Home Owner (New Homes)

Grant amount: $10,000 for newly built or substantially renovated homes in NSW*.

Grant name: First Home Owner Grant

Grant amount: $10,000 for new homes (buy or build) valued up to $750,000 in Victoria*.

The Queensland Government is doubling the First Home Owner Grant to $30,000* for eligible first home owners who sign their build contract between 20 November 2023 and 30 June 2025.


Grant name: First Home Owner Grant

Grant amount: $15,000 or $30,000 towards buying or building a new home in Queensland*.

Grant name: First Home Owner Grant

Grant amount: $10,000 (one off payment) to assist eligible first home buyers to buy or build a new residential property for use as their principal place of residence*.
