Sustainable Communities
The following steps are being taken to protect and enhance the existing environment's natural beauty and to ensure Bayswood integrates with the existing National Park:
Protection of threatened species
All threatened species on the site have been carefully identified. Environmental Management Plans will be established to retain and nurture these species which include the Glossy Black Cockatoo, Eastern Bristlebird, Jervis Bay Leak Orchid and the Giant Dragonfly.
Water Sensitive Urban Design
Bayswood incorporates world class water sensitive urban design which protects and improves the quality of the water that flows into and out of Bayswood. Two polishing ponds and a series of bioswales will be created and filled with plant life which will restore the water quality.
Transplanting of Native Vegetation
Rather than planting new species in developed areas, existing species will be transferred and nurtured in their new location in order to preserve the natural habitat of the area.
Extra wide road reserves and preservation of trees
Bayswood will incorporate a larger area of preserved green space enabling all trees outside of the construction zones for roads and homes to be preserved.
59 hectares dedicated as a Core Environmental Zone
51% of Bayswood will be maintained and dedicated as protected environmental space or parkland.
