Noosa school students have become local ecology experts under an innovative program that has created a sign-posted nature trail at pristine Lake Doonella.
The Stockland-initiated program took students on guided tours of a recreational track in the national park to learn more about its amazing flora and fauna. Students then helped create interpretive signage that provides information to the public about the areas environmental values and covering information including mangrove habitats, fish species, ferns and flowers, koalas, gum trees and edible medicinal plants.
The new recreational walking track is a two kilometre loop from the Doonella Noosa residential community and is open to the general public. Stockland Regional Manager for the Sunshine Coast, Troy Wainwright, said the new program was an ideal way for school students to discover the special ecology found only in Noosa.
Mr. Wainwright said the Lake Doonella walking track was an excellent new recreational facility for the Noosa region. We are very excited about the new signage and look forward to introducing more young people to the natural delights of this region.
