Looking After Our Environment
Our commitment to sustainability
At North Lakes we are committed to meeting the needs of the present without compromising the future.
Stockland has developed a range of ecological, economic and social programs that enable us to use resources wisely, protect the environment and enhance the quality of life of our residents.
North Lakes is an award winning community that integrates the very best in sustainable urban development. Key sustainability measures include:
- Water cycle management - constructed wetlands and bio-retention ?rain gardens? which help to maintain delicate ecosystems and natural water quality
- Vegetation protection - retention and enhancement of native vegetation in wildlife corridors and an environmental park, supported by leading edge water quality treatment processes
- Open spaces and accessibility - dedication of 20 per cent of North Lakes to environmental parkland and open space and a network of around 80km of walk and cycle paths
- Natural gas - ready availability of natural gas that produces the least amount of carbon dioxide of all the fossil fuels and reduces the impact of the greenhouse effect
- Community resources - programs to encourage the community to use resources wisely, such as the ?smart living? brochure that helps you minimise the use of energy and water
- Job creation and retention - provision of 13,000 full-time equivalent jobs at completion through the dedicated Town Centre and Business Park
- Housing diversity - delivery of a broad mix of home sites across North Lakes to suit a wide variety of demographic, life stage and affordability circumstances
