Materials
Materials used in North Shore:
- Environmentally friendly recycled plastic bollards and garden edging are being installed extensively throughout North Shore, reducing plastic waste through recycling,
- Soils excavated during construction have been stockpiled and reused in parks throughout the North Shore development, which saves on transport costs and associated emissions of imported soils,
- Regrowth vegetation that has been cleared for development has been chipped and reused for mulching in revegetation projects throughout North Shore. Some 4 hectares of mulched garden bed and mounding areas have already been completed,
- Local suppliers and manufacturers have been used where possible throughout construction of North Shore infrastructure, for example 4 types of stone quarried used in the entry walls are from local quarries.

Water
Stockland is targeting three key water outcomes at North Shore:
- Reduction of potable water use by households, businesses, community facilities and in landscaping,
- Ensuring that all water leaving the site through the stormwater system, or through ground infiltration, is of the highest possible quality to enhance the receiving ecosystems,
- Minimisation of the damaging effects of water inundation on the project and its tenants, residents, neighbours and visitors.
Did you know... Stockland is working with Greening Australia to collect native seedlings which will be used in our park network, that use less water than introduced species and will save thousands of litres of water each year.
The $20 million stormwater treatment system that Stockland is building at North Shore will improve the quality of the stormwater that leaves North Shore and enters the Bohle River, the adjoining creek systems and ultimately the Great Barrier Reef.

Energy
At North Shore we are already designing with the climate in mind - North Shore's lot orientation and street and park network layout have all been designed to achieve optimal solar orientation, in order to reduce dependence on air conditioning.
All new homes will have a minimum 6 star rating as of May 2010.
Now that the Queensland Government's ClimateSmart Home Service is here, everyone can do their bit to save energy, money and the environment. Visit www.climatesmarthome.com for more information.
