Now's the Time to build your first home

Now's the perfect time to build your first home.

But hurry because the $20,000 government grant is only available until June 30th 2012 and you really don't want to miss it.

It may seem far away but you need time to find the right location, right block, right home and the right mortgage for you.

You may have heard that the Reserve Bank of Australia has decreased interest rates by 0.25 per cent. What does that mean for people, like you, looking to build their first home?

It's great news. A decrease in rates means that the repayments on a $300,000 home loan decrease by $52 per month*

With lower home loan repayments and the $20,000 first homebuyer's grant, now's the perfect time to become a homeowner and build your dream home at Eucalypt.

Introducing the Eucalypt Heritage Homestead

The Eucalypt Heritage Homestead, recently restored by Stockland, is filled with history. This 76 acre site was originally purchased by Christian Hehr in 1866, arriving from Wurttemberg, Germany in 1856 aboard the ship Electric.

The Hehr family established a dairy farm, comprising various buildings including this bluestone homestead and stables. In 1892 after Christian's death the farm was transferred to son Jacob and wife Magdalena (nee Wuchatsch). Jacob and Magdalena raised seven boys and the farm was progressively passed from one generation to another.

The farmhouse is of modest Victorian design and was progressively developed in two stages. The earliest stage dating from the 1860's consisted of the western portion, containing an entry space and two flanking bedrooms. Subsequent additions included a red brick extension on bluestone foundations (now removed), providing additional living room, kitchen, bathroom, laundry and rear verandah.

The arrangement of building complexes and connecting pathways is reminiscent of German farming settlements. The original bluestone component of the homestead has now been completely restored.

Stockland will turn the Eucalypt Heritage Homestead into a cafe where residents and the community can enjoy it for generations to come.
