Water at Highlands

Recycled Water at Highlands

Highlands goes green with Recycled Water

For the environmentally conscious Highlands is proud to be one of the largest residential communities in Victoria to offer Class A recycled water to residents.

In a partnership between Stockland and Yarra Valley Water, a dual pipe system is being installed that will supply recycled water to homes and public areas, and help to reduce pressure on Melbourne's precious water supplies. The recycled water will be used to irrigate all public areas, for residential garden watering, car washing and toilet flushing and aims to reduce consumption by residents by up to one third, reinforcing Stockland's commitment as a water-wise and sustainable developer.  The recycled water will also ensure that the local parks and open spaces flourish all year round, including the MCG-sized oval at Highgate Recreation Reserve, a second training ground for Richmond Football Club.

Andrew Whitson, Stockland's General Manager for Victoria, said "Everyone in Victoria is aware of the water shortages that have seriously affected the state in recent years and how important it is to take whatever steps we can to preserve this precious resource for the future.

"The introduction of Class A recycled water to our Highlands residential community in Craigieburn will ensure local parks and playgrounds remain lush and green all year round."

Highlands Sustainability

A Commitment to the Environment

Like every Stockland project around Australia, Highlands reflects a strong commitment to and awareness of our natural environment.

The preservation and enhancement of the environment will be undertaken through a number of programs and projects designed to make Highlands a truly 'green' community.

We are preserving 500 year old river red gums, establishing walking and bike trails and undertaking extensive landscaping and maintenance.

Local children are invited to participate in Planet Ark National Tree Planting Day and have planted over 10,000 native trees and grasses on Mt. Ridley Reserve.
