The Point to deliver the 'People's Park'
Last month, Stockland invited excited future residents to participate in a community consultation session to help shape the design of the first park to be delivered at The Point in Point Lonsdale.
Over 40 local community members attended The Point's first community consultation session held at the Point Lonsdale Surf Lifesaving Club to discuss the park's design and key features with the landscape architect and Stockland development team.
Attendees were given the opportunity to review the architect's vision for the park and discuss the proposed features, including a beach themed playground, grass area by the waterway for families to enjoy.
A rain-garden concept was also presented to residents at the session with much interest. An environmental initiative, the rain-garden has been designed to capture excess rain water, cleanse and filter it, before the water flows into natural waterways.
The yet to be named 'people's park' will be one of the first features to be delivered within the new community and will be ready for use once couples and families commence moving into their new homes.
During the consultation session, residents had the opportunity to brainstorm potential names for the new parkland and collectively selected two preferred names that celebrate the historical context of the Point Lonsdale region, which they look forward to announcing with you shortly.
Stockland is thrilled by the enthusiasm and excitement residents have for this project and look forward to sharing the final park designs and name with the wider Point Lonsdale community over the coming months.

Stockland appoints Arcare to deliver aged care at The Point
Stockland has announced that specialist aged care provider, Arcare, has been appointed to develop an aged care facility within its Point Lonsdale residential community, The Point.
Offering low and high level care for up to 90 people, the facility will ensure the Peninsula?s elderly in need of special assistance can remain within the Bellarine community they currently reside in. Established in 1997, Arcare is a respected and experienced aged care provider and operates 15 facilities nationally. It is because of this experience that Stockland has chosen to partner with Arcare to deliver aged care in its Point Lonsdale project.
Stockland?s Victorian General Manager, Andrew Whitson, said Stockland has worked closely with the local Government and Arcare to ensure a high-quality aged care facility will be delivered at The Point. ?Stockland has appointed Arcare to assist in delivering aged care services that will provide residents at The Point and the local community an optimum care facility for the Bellarine Peninsula?s elderly,? said Mr Whitson.
Jan Farrell, Councilor for Beangalla Ward within the City of Greater Geelong said the aged care project to be built at The Point will provide much needed assistance for the Peninsula?s elderly community. ?In Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale we have more than twice Victoria?s average number of people aged over 60 years so it is essential to have services such as these available in our region,? said Cr Farrell.
In addition, Geoff Kellam, Director of Planning and Programs at the Department of Health?s Aged and Community Care Branch said that Point Lonsdale has been targeted by the Department as a community of interest for the placement of additional aged care services.
Arcare?s Chief Executive Officer, Mal Humphries, said ?We expect to commence construction of the aged care facility in mid-2011 and in keeping with our national branding strategy the facility will be known as Arcare Bellarine.?
The Point is a residential community spanning just over 190 hectares in Point Lonsdale. Upon completion it will feature nearly 600 homes, a community centre, retail facilities, retirement living and aged care facilities, childcare plus 86 hectares of recreational areas and open spaces with walking and cycling trails.

Stockland officially launches The Point to the public!
Stockland has launched its highly anticipated residential community, The Point to the market on Saturday 11 December 2010.

Launched in conjunction with a market and open day onsite, guests were able to celebrate the local produce and thriving community spirit of the Bellarine Peninsula with the opportunity to learn, participate and experience what life will be like at The Point.
Mike Davis, Stocklands Regional Manager said The Point offers a strong sense of community and coastal living, whilst remaining easily connected to the city centres of Melbourne and Geelong. ?Given The Points accessible location on the Bellarine Peninsula and beautiful setting, we expect that buyers will be young and mature families to retirees, holiday home-owners and locals looking for a relax way of life in the quaint Point Lonsdale.
One local who could not pass up the opportunity to buy within this coastal community was Tom Houldcroft who the first to purchase land at The Point. Mr Houldcroft is excited about what this community, which was recently awarded the Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) EnviroDevelopment ?six leaf? certification, will offer Point Lonsdale. I look forward to living within a community that is so focused on improving the Bellarine?s coastal waters and reviving our wetlands.
?It's a great environment particularly for young people seeking entry into Point Lonsdale. Many young families have already bought at The Point and I hope they will continue supporting and growing this community, particularly our local schools, surf clubs and businesses.
?Stockland is very progressive and have carefully planned our community by including an aged care facility. We look forward to living in our new home and starting our retirement at The Point,? said Mr Houldcroft.
Stockland's community, The Point, welcomes its first purchaser
Stockland has welcomed its first purchaser this October to its latest residential community located in Point Lonsdale, The Point. After hearing excellent reports about Stockland and its communities across Australia, Neil Petrie is selling his existing home in Point Lonsdale for the opportunity to build his dream home with waterfront views at The Point.
"We managed to secure the perfect block thanks to the professionalism of the Stockland team and sales agents from Kerleys Coastal Real Estate. "We'd heard great reports from our friends in Queensland who live in a Stockland community so it was an easy decision.
"We consider ourselves lucky to have been among the first to purchase at The Point. We certainly did the right thing by registering early. The opportunity came knocking and you either do it or you don't - we only had one chance to buy at The Point and we snapped it up," said Mr Petrie.
Mr Petrie believes that Stockland will achieve great results by regenerating the waterways and landscaping, works which will certainly add value to the Point Lonsdale region. "Stockland has been committed to improving the area with its thorough planning. So far it's been very good." Mr Petrie also believes there is a strong community atmosphere at Point Lonsdale and is looking forward to remaining in the area where many of his close family and friends currently reside.
"I was born and bred local Point Lonsdale. It is such a relaxing place to live! We have commenced planning our new home and cannot wait to move in." Mr Petrie added there are great signs for the future community at The Point, particularly Stockland's consideration of aged care services for the ageing population, with the addition of an aged care facility which will service the residential community. "I think it's an excellent idea and something we all need to plan for. Everyone gets older, and as people are living longer, we need to account for these changes in the Point Lonsdale community.
"The Point will also offer young families, the future generation of Point Lonsdale, an opportunity to enter into this great community and build their own lifestyle at The Point."
Upon completion The Point will feature nearly 600 homes, a community centre, retail facilities, retirement living and childcare facilities plus 86 hectares of recreational areas and open spaces with walking and cycling trails. The Point Sales and Information Centre is located at Lakes Entrance Drive, Point Lonsdale and is open Thursday to Monday from 11am to 5pm.
Stockland receives environmental accreditation for The Point
Stocklands Point Lonsdale community, The Point, has been announced as the first Victorian development to achieve the Urban Institute of Australias (UDIA) highest environmental sustainability rating.
The housing and waterways community, located on the Bellarine Peninsula, has received the UDIAs EnviroDevelopment ?six leaf? accreditation. EnviroDevelopment is a scientifically-based rating system designed by the UDIA to make it easier for potential purchasers to recognise the sustainability attributes of residential communities. The Point was recognised for meeting the requirements of all six EnviroDevelopment criteria for sustainability: ecosystems, waste, energy, materials, water and community.
Stockland has achieved these standards through a wide range of policies and design features at The Point including offsetting any loss of native vegetation, re-establishing naturally occurring ecosystems damaged through years of mining and implementing leading practice water sensitive urban design.
Tony De Domenico, Victorian Executive Director of the UDIA, said: 'We award a ?leaf? if a developer meets the requirements in any of our six categories. Achieving a leaf for all six categories indicates Stockland?s real commitment to preserving and enhancing the natural environment of Point Lonsdale'. Other measures highlighted by the UDIA include rainwater tanks for every home and a major focus on local indigenous planting for street trees and open space areas.
Stockland Victoria General Manager, Andrew Whitson, said Stockland is delighted to be the first developer to achieve the full six leaf accreditation in Victoria. 'We have worked hard to address the environmentally sensitive nature of the proposed development site.
'Were taking steps to improve the areas waterways using natural methods, and since 2002, we have been collecting seed from the site ready for future planting in revegetation areas. 'Achieving the EnviroDevelopment accreditation from the UDIA is important external recognition of our efforts,' said Mr Whitson.
Construction of The Point is due to start in the new year and the homes will be complemented by a multipurpose community centre and 31 hectares of parkland incorporating playgrounds, picnic areas plus cycling and walking paths. A 56 hectare nature reserve comprising of wetlands and conservation areas will provide a natural habitat for local fauna and migratory water birds.
The first stage of the development, located near the corner of Fellows Road and the Bellarine Highway, will see parkland at the entry to the Lonsdale Lakes estate upgraded with the installation of a playground and picnic shelter. Drainage will also be improved to eliminate the existing flood risk.
