Planning for Retirement

John and Olive Johnston did a lot of groundwork and research before they chose to make their home at Macarthur Gardens Retirement Village in Campbelltown, New South Wales.

“I like to plan and look ahead,” John says about the journey that brought him and his wife Olive to their current retirement home in Southern Sydney.

He says he started researching downsizing a while ago because he realised that their large family home and big block of land was probably too much to maintain down the track. “I’d been thinking about it as an option for some time. We went to every village in the area virtually. We went to some of them a couple of times.”

Transitioning to a Retirement Village

When they were looking at their future living options Ray and Kay Hunnam made return visits to Arilla Retirement Village in South Morang, Victoria, in order to ensure that the move would be the right decision for them.

“Even if I had the option to go back to our old house, I wouldn’t. We’ve moved on – and we couldn’t be happier,” says Ray. “That’s coming from a man who was never going to move to a retirement village!

“Then we discovered an ideal quality of life out there. It’s just a matter of reaching out and taking it.” Kay agrees. “It’s a lifestyle investment,” she says of their move to the village.

Peace of Mind from a Serviced Apartment

“Almost seven years ago I moved from Sydney to North Lakes so Fay and I could live close to one another,” Nancy said. “Now we see each other almost every day which is wonderful. I’m not able to manage the housework myself any more but it still needs to be done. Living in a Serviced Apartment means my daughter doesn’t have to spend her time doing my chores.”
