Resident Stories
The residents here made me feel so welcome and involved
The idea of downsizing from my family home in Greensborough into a serviced apartment was very frightening at first. I knew I could no longer maintain a large house on my own but at the same time was hesitant about moving into something smaller.
Despite my initial concerns, my sons and I agreed the move into a retirement village was the best option for me to get the added support whilst remaining independent and active.
"Shortly after dad passed away we realised Mum was finding it hard being alone, particularly as she was suffering from a condition that restricted her mobility. As a family we agreed to look into alternative living options that provided her with both support and companionship," says son Dennis.
"Mum and I briefly visited the grounds of several local villages but Templestowe was the only one we actually made an enquiry about," he recalls. "I think the peaceful surroundings, community environment and the fact it was close to our family is what made it appealing."
"We were also pleased to find a village ideal for Mum's needs, giving our family peace of mind and reassurance that she is safe, happy and surrounded by a supportive community."
Although I moved into a renovated apartment and brought new furnishings, I felt sad about leaving the home I shared with my husband for years before he passed away. I was also scared about becoming isolated and lonely. To my surprise these fears didn't last long and it was the complete opposite, the residents here made me feel so welcome and involved.
I made friends very quickly and no longer struggled day-in and day-out with jobs around the house. It gave me more time to be involved with village activities, something I never did back in my old community.
