Update on progress
There are exciting times ahead at Stockland Townsville with the $180 million development moving ahead.
Demolition of the old IGA supermarket, CBA building and iconic Nathan Street multilevel car park were completed at the end of 2010 in readiness for construction of Myer, Woolworths and the new multi-level car park.
As at March 2011 approximately 37,000 tonnes of material has been removed from the site and much of it will be reused. As part of the project with Stockland, lead contractor Laing O'Rourke is aiming to recycle up to 80 per cent of total waste material including concrete, steel, bricks and copper in an effort to deliver a four star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia.
Whilst the development is well and truly underway, it is still business as usual at Stockland Townsville. Over 1,000 car parks are still available, of which 90 percent are undercover so shoppers' cars can stay cool while they visit the centre.
The redevelopment is due for completion in October 2012 and upon completion the project will offer customers over 2,000 car bays with over 80 per cent of these being undercover.
The redevelopment is being delivered in stages and is due for completion in October 2012:
- Woolworths, fresh food precinct and new car parking was completed in December 2011 - Now Open!
- The new food court is due for completion July 2012.
- Link mall featuring new specialty stores is due for completion August 2012.
- Myer and a new mall featuring fashion is due for completion October 2012.
