Welcome to the first issue of the Workplace & Logistics newsletter, which will be delivered straight to your inbox every quarter to keep you informed about industry trends, insights and research on the Australian commercial and industrial property market. We’ll bring you our thinking on what’s ahead in the logistics sector and explore the workplaces of the future.
You’ll notice our new name – Workplace & Logistics – which now covers our office, business parks and logistics assets. The new name reflects the evolution of the office to a workplace that is an experience-led space powering collaboration and innovation. It also highlights our renewed focus on logistics developments in response to the changing distribution and last-mile logistics needs driven by continued population growth and the rise of e-commerce.
Earlier this year in June, we welcomed our new CEO of Commercial Property, Louise Mason, to Stockland. Louise is a highly regarded, experienced property professional with expertise across the different aspects of commercial property gained over the past two decades at AMP Capital and Lendlease. Working alongside the W&L team, Louise’s extensive experience across both operations and development will contribute to the continued successful management of our commercial property assets, delivery of our development pipeline, and reshaping of our portfolio.
The portfolio posted strong FY18 results, which reflects the success of our focus on growth and our development pipeline and we are well positioned to reshape our business for future growth and success. The outlook for FY19 remains positive with solid employment growth, low interest rates and low inflation favourable for future development opportunities. Within our industry, the continued growth of online retailing is resulting in businesses reviewing and refining their supply chain to minimise delivery times. The shift from a cost proposition to convenience based for logistics and distribution centres will see an increased demand for strategically located estates close to residential areas.
Throughout FY19, we will share important updates with you of what’s going on in the W&L portfolio, as well as valuable content on what is happening in the industry and economy more broadly.
