A casual dining precinct and new retail floor space with a focus on fresh youth fashion will open at Stockland Wendouree in Ballarat in mid-2018 following a $37 million redevelopment of the centre to create the best retail shopping destination in Victoria’s central west.

The expansion and upgrade of the centre, which begins on 6 July, will add 6,700 square metres of new retail floor space, 22 new specialty shops - bringing the number of retailers to over 100 – and an indoor-outdoor casual dining hub with 10 new cafes and restaurants. The redevelopment will elevate the customer experience and reaffirm the centre’s position as the largest enclosed shopping destination in the area.

Ballarat is one of the fastest growing regional cities in Victoria and the redevelopment will offer customers a signature retail experience that’s accessible and convenient and on par with that of any major metropolitan city.

Stockland Group CEO of Commercial Property, John Schroder, said the redevelopment reflects what today’s customers want.

“Our vision is to create the best retail shopping destination in Victoria’s central west. We’re responding to our customers’ feedback to ensure Stockland Wendouree remains the retail destination of choice with a greater range of specialty fashion, retail services and a vibrant and inviting casual dining experience for our customers to enjoy.

“We are confident that Stockland Wendouree will become the star destination for the community to meet, eat, shop and socialise,” he said.

Central to the upgrade will be a new full-line 3,800 square metre Woolworths with the latest fresh food innovations including an artisan delicatessen and an on-site bakery as well as an adjoining BWS liquor store.

The new laneway dining precinct, with indoor and outdoor seating and 10 new cafes and restaurants, reflects customers shifting preference for more relaxed and casual dining.

Sustainability will also be part of the centre’s design with plans for a rooftop solar installation to reduce carbon emissions and an inclusive playground for children of all abilities to play together, designed in conjunction with the Touched By Olivia Foundation.

The centre will remain fully operational during the redevelopment with most retailers trading as normal.
