Bokarina Beach Construction update January 2018

Works are well underway to deliver an upgrade of Nicklin Way and a pedestrian underpass between Wurley Drive and Beach Drive at Bokarina.

It is our priority to ensure pedestrian, driver and worker safety.

With the school year commencing we understand there will be new students, teachers and parents around the work site.

Please adhere to any safety signage and instructions as you access the work area.

Stockland is funding the upgrade of Nicklin Way between Wurley Drive and Beach Drive, Bokarina. The scope of works includes:

  • Two new bridges with a pedestrian and cycle path underneath, and the extension of Lake Kawana into the Bokarina Beach site*
  • Additional south-bound lanes to increase traffic capacity
  • A new signalised junction at the intersection of Nicklin Way and Lake Kawana Boulevard to provide access to the Bokarina Beach site
  • An additional right-hand turn lane into Lake Kawana Boulevard to improve access to the Health Precinct
  • A new north-bound dedicated bus lane through the intersection and an indented bus stop on the south-bound lane just south of Beach Drive
  • New dedicated bicycle lanes and an upgraded pedestrian crossing on Nicklin Way.

Normal construction work hours are from 6.30am-6.30pm Monday to Saturday. For operational and safety reasons, work hours may need to change from time to time. To minimise traffic impacts, some night works may be required. We will advise of the future need for any night works.

A construction site office has been established at the end of Sportsman’s Parade.  Traffic management arrangements have been introduced to allow workers to access the work areas and support pedestrian and driver safety. Hoarding and signage has been installed around active work areas with clear instructions on pedestrian and vehicle detours. A side track has been created for detoured pedestrians.

The site will be under active traffic management. For driver, pedestrian and worker safety, the permitted vehicle speed will be reduced to 40km/ hour through the work precinct. There will also be temporary changes to lane configuration.

Please observe instructions as you access the work area. Pedestrian access along Nicklin Way and local roads will be maintained, but access arrangements will change. It is important to be alert and follow the directions of traffic management.

Students and parents walking to school near the work area should be made aware of changes and the importance of using new footpath arrangements currently in place.

Hall Contracting, a Sunshine Coast based civil construction company, has been appointed to deliver these works.
