Hall Contracting have now set up their site compound off Beach Drive and are busy on site getting construction underway.

Geotechnical testing on the site has been completed and a preload earthworks operation has been underway in the south west corner of the site.

This involves placing a heavy pad of soil on top of this area that forces the water in the underlying soils out. You may have also noticed an interesting piece of equipment working away in this area, shown in the photos below. This is a "wicking" machine that is drilling holes in the ground and inserting plastic wick drains that will draw the water from under the preload pad and drain away into a basin area. The wicking process provides an easier path for the water to drain from the underlying soils. Wicking is not a commonly used technique and is a first for Stockland on the Sunshine Coast.

Halls will complete the construction of the preload pad before Christmas and it will then remain in place until the ground has finished settling. The pad will then be removed in mid 2017 allowing Stage 1 civil works to commence.

In early 2017 you can also expect to see more activity across the rest of the site when we commence our bulk earthworks. This will include excavation for our new lake which will ultimately connect to Lake Kawana under Nicklin Way.

We've recently had a drone take some fantastic footage of the site - view the video here.

We look forward to providing further updates in the New Year.
