An exciting new facility at Brightwater in Mountain Creek is helping ramp up water-based activity at Stockland’s award-winning Sunshine Coast residential community.

Residents and visitors from around the region have been flocking to Brightwater’s centrepiece 12-hectare lake to take advantage of a new boat ramp that allows the public to easily launch non-motorised craft, such as paddleboards, canoes, kayaks and sailing boats, on the sparkling waters of the lake.

Water enthusiasts are also making the most of multiple other new access points that Stockland has added around the scenic lake for launching their non-motorised vessels.

Meanwhile, construction work has wrapped up on a new basketball half-court beside the boat ramp on Brightwater Boulevard, opposite Garnet Street, with the lakeside facility opening in time for the school holidays.

Matt Byrne, Sunshine Coast Residential Development Manager at Stockland, said the boat ramp and basketball half-court are just a couple of the superb public facilities that Stockland and its build partners have created for residents at the 1500-home Brightwater community and the wider community to enjoy.

“Stockland, Sunshine Coast Council and Brightwater’s consulting teams and contractors, Hall Contracting, Eureka Landscapes, AECOM and Calibre Group, have donated more than $200,000 to deliver these facilities,’’ Mr Byrne said.

Mr Byrne said residents had been eagerly awaiting the opening of the boat ramp.

“Right from the start residents have been keen for this boat ramp, so it is rewarding to see many people heading out on the lake for some family fun on their kayaks, paddleboards, canoes and sailing boats,’’ he said.

“Brightwater already hosts a free 5km park run each week and this new boat ramp further cements our community as the destination to engage in healthy and active outdoor activities on the Sunshine Coast.

“Furthermore, after families or friends enjoy some water-based activities they can look forward to a scenic barbecue or picnic beside the lake.”

Mr Byrne said he hoped teenagers and other youngsters would have just as much fun at the new lakeside basketball half-court.

“What’s more, the basketball court is located just across the road from an adventure park with toilets and a water fountain, which is perfect for families that have youngsters through to teenagers,” he said.

Division Six Councillor Christian Dickson said he was delighted to be involved in the Brightwater legacy project.

“Brightwater has set so many benchmarks on the Sunshine Coast since it was launched in 2008 and I am delighted to be associated with this latest milestone achievement,” Cr Dickson said.

“The community already has so many wonderful facilities and this new boat ramp      and the basketball half-court will further add to the fantastic lifestyle on offer for residents.”

Councillor Dickson said in the future it was expected local clubs and schools would use Brightwater lake for sailing lessons and even boating regattas.

Brightwater Community Association President Grant Mifsud said it was great to see Stockland, Council and Brightwater’s building partners going out of their way to give back to the community.

"We are so happy that these legacies are being left for residents at Brightwater,'' Mr Mifsud said. “The boat ramp opens up the lake for what it was intended - to be used by residents for their enjoyment.

“In addition, the basketball half-court will create a good balance to the facilities at Brightwater. There are already a lot of facilities for youngsters and this is something that will appeal to older children.”

Brightwater is now in the final stages of development with the last remaining residential lots selling quickly. All sales enquiries for the final land release at Brightwater are being redirected to Stockland’s Oceanside Sales and Information Centre on the corner of Birtinya Boulevard and Lake Kawana Boulevard, or call 07 5437 8703
