Autumn’s cooler months boast clear blue skies, fresher temperatures and brilliant sunshine, making it the perfect season to enjoy a picnic in the park!

There are a few things to consider when putting together a fantastic picnic, so we have compiled our top tips on how to pack like a pro and enjoy your next perfect park picnic!

Location, Location, Location
The first step in planning a perfect picnic is to find a prime location. At Newport you are spoilt for choice with a fantastic selection of award winning parks connected by kilometres of waterside bike paths.

Overlooking local canals is the popular Newport Park.  Its central beachside location means that small children can revel in the sand-based play area, while bigger kids can be curious and adventurous through the various series of ladders, bridges, climbing nets and slides.

If your picnic plans also include packing some water craft activities, head to Spinnaker Park, which is perfectly positioned on Newport Lake.

Heat up your picnic game with a sizzling BBQ at Newport’s family favourite, Central Park. Featuring the latest play equipment and facilities such as barbeques, shelters and toilets for social gatherings, this expansive park has it all!

For a dreamy sunset, Lock Park is an ideal location. Situated on the mouth of Newport’s Lake, this tranquil park offers a sprawling, grassy area and covered shelter so it’s the perfect place to relax with neighbours or enjoy as a lovely picnic spot for two.

Equipment Essentials
There are two heroes of any picnic in a park; a basket laden with goodies and an outdoor picnic rug. Also remember to ensure your picnic basket has an insulated section to it… because nobody wants to get sick from hot, spoilt food!

Food For Thought
The options are endless when it comes to choosing picnic foods, however some general rules to follow are:
Pick items that can be eaten with hands.
The more bite sized, the better.
Keep it simple.
