The new residents of Newport on the Redcliffe Peninsula will be super cool this summer thanks to a pool-building frenzy under way at the Stockland community.

Gary Scott has been building pools in the local area for the past 27 years and cannot recall a busier time for his industry.

“We are building about a dozen pools right now for future Newport residents and expect to be starting on several more in the coming months,” Mr Scott said.

Almost 450 blocks at Newport have been sold since the community launched last year and the first new residents have started moving in over recent weeks.

Many of the buyers are opting to include a pool from Mr Scott’s Crown Pools & Spas, which is based close by at Kippa Ring, as part of their new home plans.

Mr Scott is also a buyer at Newport. In fact, he is about to move into his first home at the community and next year will start building his next home on the lakefront in Newport’s Quay precinct.

“We already live at Newport and when I heard about Stockland buying the land at Newport we immediately thought something pretty special would be coming, especially with the lake and the restaurant area,” he said.

“The lakefront block is our third one in Newport. We are almost finished building our first house and have also bought another block as an investment.

“Metricon will be building our lakefront house. We walked into a Hamptons-style Metricon home in the Newport display village and immediately said ‘give us one of those please’. We have also decided to include a boardwalk and pontoon.

“We are downsizing to a 10.5m frontage block and don’t want a big yard. We do a fair bit of travelling so will just be able to leave home and have the lawn mown and the pool checked once every few weeks.”

David Laner, Regional Manager at Stockland, said Newport was providing a significant boost to the economy and jobs in the local Redcliffe area.

“We expect Newport to create about 2,000 direct and indirect jobs during the current construction phase and around 900 permanent jobs once the $590 million community is completed,” Mr Laner said.

“It is great to hear that local businesses such as Crown Pool & Spas are seeing strong demand at Newport and that business owners such as Gary Scott are also among the buyers at Newport.”

Newport offers a modern and convenient lifestyle with a wide selection of home sites, all of which are just a short stroll to the bay and green open spaces. Commuters will be able to walk to the new Kippa Ring Train Station and a future Newport town centre with alfresco eateries and shopping.

“It will be a 2-minute walk from our house to Sunday lunch on the Newport waterfront – what could be better than lunch and a drink by the water on a Sunday afternoon?” Mr Scott said.
