Job opportunities on the Sunshine Coast have been given a welcome boost as key projects at Stockland’s burgeoning Oceanside Kawana community begin to take shape.

The Oceanside Health Hub is a hive of activity as work progresses on three new commercial buildings, with McNab appointed as the construction contractor for the latest project, the Opal Aged Care facility.

Mark McMahon, Senior Development Manager at Stockland, said the construction activity within Oceanside Kawana was not only creating new job opportunities for Sunshine Coast residents, it was also helping to keep local tradespeople employed within the region.

“We’re seeing an increasing number of tradespeople who have previously been commuting to Brisbane for work being employed on job sites within the Oceanside Kawana precinct,” Mr McMahon.

“This is great news not only for local workers but also for the Sunshine Coast. Oceanside Kawana is a key driver for the region’s economy, with the precinct estimated to create 3,000 construction jobs every year for the next 15 years and 12,000 ongoing new jobs".

“The construction of the Opal Aged Care facility alone will create approximately 200 jobs.”

McNab began construction on the state-of-the-art vertical aged care facility in November last year and the company estimates around 90 per cent of the subcontractors and suppliers awarded to-date on the projects are locals.Murray Aitken is one Sunshine Coast resident benefitting from the project.

For the past four-and-a-half years the McNab Site Manager has been commuting three-and-a-half hours a day to work on various projects for the company at the University of Queensland’s St Lucia Campus in Brisbane.

Mr Aitken is now working on the Oceanside Health Hub site, which is a short walk from his home at Kawana Forest.

“I’m stoked, travelling takes it out of you, I’m much more refreshed and spend more time with my family,” Mr Aitken said. “Plus I’m saving a fortune in petrol costs.”

Stockland’s $5 billion Oceanside Kawana health, retail, commercial, education and residential hub is set to be a new world-class destination for the Sunshine Coast.

The project encompasses approximately 100 hectares of land in the heart of the Sunshine Coast and includes the Oceanside Health Hub and Sunshine Coast Health Campus, Birtinya at Oceanside, Bokarina Beach, a future Town Centre and commercial precinct.
