Sunshine Coast University Hospital (Public)

The Queensland Government is investing in a new tertiary teaching hospital on the Sunshine Coast to meet growing demand for hospital services and train local residents to  be the health workforce of the future.

The Sunshine Coast University Hospital will offer a range of  new and expanded services, meaning an estimated 10,000 patients each year will no longer have to travel to Brisbane for complex treatments. It will open with about 450 beds in 2017 and grow to a 738 bed facility.

The new public hospital is being delivered through a Public Private Partnership (PPP) with Exemplar Health, a consortium comprising Lendlease, Capella Capital and Siemens, with partners Spotless Facilities Services. This consortium will design, build and finance the public hospital as well as  maintain it for 25 years.

The public hospital includes the Sunshine Coast Health Institute that will provide dedicated education and research facilities. The institute is a collaboration between the  Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service and tertiary education providers.

Extensive planning and consultation with local clinicians has been used to identify the wide range of hospital services that will be available at the new public hospital, which includes:
