New yoga and children’s self-defence classes will run in Pallara this school term as part of Stockland’s Link & Learn program. The classes will provide an opportunity for Pallara residents to mingle with neighbouring families in Acacia Ridge, Algester, Sunnybank and Sunnybank Hills, while staying active and learning new skills.

The community classes, and weekly parkrun events were designed for a range of ages and abilities to foster an active and inclusive community.

The free adult yoga classes will be held fortnightly on Saturday mornings from 8am - 9am in Pallara Central Park. Participants will be led by a qualified instructor through a total mind-body workout, combining strengthening and stretching poses with deep breathing and meditation.

Following the yoga class, children aged six to 11 are invited to participate in guided self-defence classes at 9am for 40 minutes. Silat-inspired self-defence classes are realistic, easy-to-learn, proven self-defence techniques taught in a fun and enjoyable environment. Southside Academy of Combat will train children in the art of self-defence while encouraging them to become confident, respectable and positive towards others and making local friends in the process.

A weekly 5km parkrun will also take place each Saturday morning at 7am as a social opportunity for community residents to run, jog or even walk the dog around the neighbourhood’s green spaces.

Dave Franklin, Senior Development Manager at Stockland said Pallara’s Link & Learn program was a great way for community members to forge real relationships between one another, while staying active and learning new skills.

“Our community has been designed with families and active living in mind. From the Feng Shui designed parks to the established walking tracks, these free events are a natural extension of the lifestyle on offer when purchasing at Pallara,”Mr Franklin said.

“We hope these new initiatives will inspire community members to continue to foster happy, healthy neighbourhood networks while getting out and about to enjoy the wonderful open spaces and places available within the Pallara region.”
