Interstate buyers looking for new homes in Queensland are targeting affordable, high growth corridors in the state’s south-east, according to Stockland.

New figures from Queensland’s largest residential developer reveal the top locations for interstate purchases in the 2017 financial year with Mountain Creek on the Sunshine Coast and North Lakes in Brisbane’s north leading the way.

 

Other popular locations included Holmview in Logan, Deebing Heights in the Ipswich corridor, Newport on the Redcliffe Peninsula, and Ormeau on the northern Gold Coast.

 

Kingsley Andrew, Queensland General Manager for Residential Communities at Stockland, said approximately half of all new townhomes at Stockland’s Brightwater community at Mountain Creek were snapped up by buyers from southern states.

 

“Similarly, our townhomes at North Lakes were also in hot demand, together with standard housing lots in this ever-popular community,” Mr Andrew said.

 

“As the state’s largest residential developer, we are well placed to identify which regions are most appealing to interstate buyers looking for land, house and land packages, townhomes or completed new homes,” he said.

 

The Stockland analysis shows New South Wales was the largest source of buyers, representing approximately two thirds of interstate purchases in Stockland’s south-east Queensland communities.

 

Victorian buyers accounted for a further 12 per cent of interstate purchases, followed by South Australia (7 per cent) and Western Australia (5 per cent).

 

Mr Andrew said interstate buyers included both owner occupiers looking to relocate to Queensland and investors looking for better value for money than they could get in other markets.

 

“For example, we currently have land available at our Sovereign Pocket community in the Ipswich corridor starting at only $153,900, and house and land packages priced from $343,970,” he said.

 

“Home sites at Vale in the Logan corridor start at $190,900 with house and land packages available from $365,593.

 

“It is no surprise that interstate buyers looking for affordable, high quality new homes and an appealing lifestyle close to all services are turning their attention to Queensland,” he said.
