Work is now underway on the rejuvenation of the expansive parklands surrounding Waterlea, and according to Knox city mayor Darren Pearce, the makeover is set to be ‘spectacular’. “I’m very impressed with the plans,” he said. “It will be our marquee project.”

The new public parkland will include a brand-new lake, complete with lakeside kiosk, boardwalk and ponds – and will even feature an ‘urban beach’ for yabbying.  The $13million design will also see the refurbishment of the historic Stamford Park homestead, repurposed into a stylish restaurant. And according to Nicole Seymour, chair of the Stamford Park Project Steering Committee, “There’s going to be nothing like it in the outer east.”

By working collaboratively on this project, Stockland and Knox City Council have been able to masterplan a picturesque and sustainable community like no other. It’s thanks to this, Mayor Pearce expects Waterlea will soon become one of Melbourne’s “most sought-after addresses.”
