Our Retirement Villages recently turned into an episode of My (village) Kitchen Rules when residents were invited to brush off their aprons and show off their best culinary creations for prizes and glory!

The nationwide competition, run by the Retirement Living Marketing team, was created to engage residents within the village and source some quirky culinary characters. The team went on a hunt for our village’s best home chefs and were overwhelmed with the response.

Our Media Relations Consultant, Monique Jones, who worked on the competition said, “With our focus on content across the business and a number of recent requests for recipes from media outlets, we thought the Resident Recipe competition would be a simple but effective way to source some great recipes directly from our residents. Some villages really took the competition on board by putting up posters, adding it to newsletters or running events. We were so blown away by the quality and quantity of submissions that we are already brainstorming the next competition for Christmas.”

Retirement Living received 31 recipe submissions over 8 weeks. The recipes ranged from cakes to pizzas to casseroles and puddings. A special mention also goes the to Vermont Village for coordinating their own Resident Recipe village event and submitting 11 scrumptious dishes to the competition.

While the decision to crown three winners was difficult, the end results saw June Stone from Somerton Park Village SA, Liz McDonald from The Cove Village NSW and Jo Jones from our Vermont Village VIC, take out the crown for their originality. Our three winners will each be sent a $50.00 Stockland gift card and each entrant will also receive a Resident Recipe certificate.
