While our residents at Parklands Retirement Village love to get out and about in the wider community, they also love taking advantage of the amenities and social activities right on their doorstep – and why wouldn’t they!
With a modern clubhouse, indoor heated swimming pool, two bowling greens and a coffee shop, there’s certainly plenty of spaces to enjoy. Plus, with a wide range of village activities and social groups – you could never get bored!
Curious to see what our residents love getting up to most? We spoke to Village Manager of 16 years Jeff McHugh to find out for you.
With an indoor green and newly renovated outdoor green, our residents enjoy their bowling all year round, regardless of the weather conditions! Our serious bowlers like to frequent the indoor green for a competitive game or two whereas our social bowlers enjoy some quality weather on the outdoor green. When you meet resident bowler Gil, you’ll certainly be motivated to get involved while she rounds up the village! Sounds like a great way to get some fresh air, keep healthy and active while socialising with friends. Many of the residents then take up some relaxation and chit-chat after the game is over in the kabana.
Had a bit too much of the ‘good stuff’ recently or feel like you want to stretch those limbs? Our residents head down to the community hall each Tuesday for an hour-long exercise session hosted by trainer Toni Gore. Whether you want to sit, stand or lean, Toni prepares a session so all residents can get involved to improve strength, flexibility and posture. Not only is this exercise good for balance and coordination, we hear it’s a good old laugh for our residents too! But the fun doesn’t stop there when resident Sue hosts her own exercise to music classes. Making sure everyone feels welcome to give it a go, this class is a hit for our residents too!
Who doesn’t enjoy sitting around in the afternoon for a good old board game or cards? A get-together that has been hosted for many years is now being kept alive by resident John who was determined to keep the spirit alive! While games like Rummikub are popular in this group, residents can also bring down their favourites to enjoy. We couldn’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon – surrounded by friends, playing games and having some good ol’ chit chat. When the grandkids are popping in for a catch up, why not let them join in the fun – a game of Fish anyone?!
While so many are missing out on the fun of a daily social life, our residents are Parklands know they are lucky to continue the entertainment on the ‘inside’. Monthly concerts held by various local artists continue to strum their drum, strike a note and sing a tune for our residents. With comfortable seating, many residents look forward to heading down to the hall to sing along with the likes of Paul ‘Hats’ Louis or Rob and Cathy Porter to name a few. Have you seen the newsletter? Who’s playing next month!?
