Hear from one of our Wamberal Gardens residents, Marshall Colville, and find out what retirement living is really like.

We asked Marshall to answer some of our frequently asked questions. Hear for yourself what he has to say.

I came to Australia in the early 60s and started a business which I ran for many years. And when I retired 15 years ago, we bought a house that was big enough for our children to come and stay the weekends.
And then after a few years we thought, we’ll downsize, and we looked at a few retirement villages and we found this was one of the ones we really liked. We had to think a bit about moving in, and then when we did move in, we made the choice to move, and it’s been wonderful. It’s the best thing we ever did and you hear everybody say the same thing, I wish we’d done years before.
It comes a time when you think the time is right, and we did, we’ve been at this village, Wamberal Gardens, for five and half years, and we really love it. The people are very, very nice around us, and there’s so much going on socially, and the pool, and the barbecues, it’s like a big family and I really enjoy that.

Q: What is village life like?
A: We do lots of things every day, there’s always something different. Apart from appointments which seem to crop up as you’re older, I have a small garden here and I do that, and I go to the gymnasium a couple of times a week. There’s various things we do, play bowls, various activities here at the village, the swimming pool, and the barbecues where we all get together.

Q: What would you tell someone who is thinking about making the move to a retirement village?
A: If you think of moving to a retirement village, don’t hesitate too long – do it! It’s a nice lifestyle and we enjoy it.
