While our residents at Willowdale Retirement Village love to get out and about in the wider community, they also love taking advantage of the Clubhouse and social activities right on their doorstep – and why wouldn’t they!

With an exclusive Clubhouse featuring an indoor heated swimming pool, gymnasium, hair and beauty salon, coffee lounge, library, media room, games room and arts and crafts centre, there’s certainly plenty of spaces to enjoy. Plus, with a thriving social calendar including workshop sessions, knitting group, aqua fitness, social club, drawing, stretch classes, happy hour and more – you could never get bored!

Let’s see what our Willowdale Retirement Village residents love getting up to most.

The Meat & Greet
Who doesn’t love a good old-fashioned Aussie BBQ? Our Willowdale residents certainly do with approximately 90 residents joining in on the weekly catchup, according to our Social Committee member Steve.

Over the last two-and-a-half years, typically on a Sunday, residents are treated to the Meat & Greet (no, that’s not a typo!) to enjoy some good banter, some good food and a beverage or two together. For a donation of $2 residents enjoy a snag in a roll or a scrumptious BBQ burger while the resident bar ensures the drinks are flowing. While you’re there you can buy yourself a raffle ticket to support the Social Committee to throw even more great events like this!

The Knitting Group
Twice a week our residents come together to share yummy home-made baked cakes and sandwiches, enjoy a cuppa, have a chat and knit knit knit!

Our residents love knitting up something for the home, woollies for the cooler months or something for the grandkids. Many in the group even knit for premmie babies in the local hospitals or sell their craft to raise much needed funds for charities like Redkite and the Cancer Council. In fact, one year the residents love of knitting raised $2,000 for Redkite alone – amazing!

Bus Day Out
Did someone say lunch and retail therapy? Once a month one of the resident bus drivers, Steve, will take residents for a full day out of walking, shopping, wining and dining, whatever the group wants! The Social Committee comes up with the great ‘agenda’ and the residents jump on board.

As a full 5-6 hours of enjoyment, make sure you pop the slow cooker on before you head out or pick up some takeaway dinner as we just know when you get home from this full day of activity, you’re going to want to pop those feet up!

If you don’t have a car or you need a little assistance, take advantage of the weekly shopping trip to your local town centre and Bunnings for all those essential goodies!

Monthly Morning Tea with Deb
Onsite Village Manager Deb really cares for her residents at Willowdale Retirement Village, and she likes to show it to her ‘big family’ once a month with a cuppa and some sweets. Catch up with friends and Deb to get the low-down on village happenings, what’s new and have your say in the community. It’s a great get-together and the residents love staying involved in their community. Great idea Deb!

We Love to Help Others
At Willowdale Retirement Village we have over 230 residents that are welcoming, giving and caring. Our residents enjoy getting involved in the wider community and do so with many donation initiatives.

Some include the Reverse Christmas Tree where gifts are donated to a chosen charity, purchasing a few extra staples in the weekly shop that are pooled together and given to those in need or donating gifts to form a raffle with proceeds then given to charity.

The generosity is quite amazing, and that’s the spirit that the residents enjoy living amongst!
