For Glen and Sue Camac, retirement living has offered them everything and more without stretching them financially.

The married couple moved into Stockland’s Hillsview Retirement Village in Happy Valley after selling their Victor Harbor home.

They were pleased at the affordability of their villa after qualifying for Centrelink assistance.

“Because our villa was under a certain price point, we’ve been able to access rental assistance from Centrelink to help pay our village service levies which helps cover the cost of our facilities and maintenance,” said Glen.

“We never thought we’d be able to live somewhere as pretty and as affordable as we do now.  We recommend anyone thinking about moving into a retirement village to check if they’re available for this type of assistance.”

The couple were drawn to Hillsview by its picturesque surrounds but also its proximity and accessibility to health care facilities.

“Sue has an incurable lung condition which requires frequent visits to Flinders Medical Centre.  She also requires a pool for her rehabilitation and Hillsview was one of the few housing options which ticked all the boxes,” Glen said.

Sue has started a village book club and has made lifelong friends in the process.

“I just love reading books and have meet so many wonderful friends through the book club who also share my passion - that I wouldn’t have met otherwise,” she explains.

The couple also attend weekly social BBQ’s in the villages revamped clubhouse.

The clubhouse re-development at Stockland includes a resident’s bar new servery area, new furniture and floor coverings, repaving of the outdoor area, re-aligning internal walls to allow greater connectivity between the clubhouse and hall, as well as other general cosmetic upgrades.

Other recent works have included refurbishments to the village’s heated indoor swimming pool, communal barbeque and entertaining area, arts and craft room, and community garden.

“The facilities at Hillsview are second to none, there’s always activities and events on to keep us entertained and connected to other residents in the village,” said Sue.

“We’re very much part of a community here. There’s a real country vibe and everyone stops to say hello and have a chat, we love it here.”

“Moving to Hillsview has allowed us to realise our retirement dream.”
