Sarah Russo tells us why she loves working for Latrobe Retirement Village and shares advice for new residents
Sarah Russo has been helping people transition into Latrobe Retirement Village for some time now, so she knows a thing or two about our community. We asked her to share advice for those considering the move or having recently joined us, and why she loves her job.
“I think the best advice is to take the plunge and try every village activity at least once. By joining in, volunteering in the village and participating, you will get to meet so many of our fabulous residents and really make the most of your retirement experience.”
Of course not everyone is instantly on board with jumping straight in, there are a lot of misconceptions about retirement living, which Sarah thinks are silly.
“I think that sometimes, people confuse us with Aged Care. We do offer some services that align with health and wellbeing, but we are really all about community, being part of the village, the activities, and committees.”
“It truly is a great way to enhance your lifestyle, to always have someone to chat to, have a cuppa with and to laugh with, but still maintain that independence that's so important to us all.”
For people still considering the move, Sarah had this to say.
“I think the most important thing is to be fully informed, to time it right, so to do it when you are feeling well and energised, and to do it sooner rather than later. We have residents who are 55 and they are set up for life in a wonderful community and have freed up money to live well, to travel, to gift to their children and grandchildren, and their families feel so relieved to know they have a community and support around them if they need it.”
Sarah finds that people are often surprised when they first see Latrobe Retirement Village for themselves.
“People get shocked when they initially tour with us. Residents are unbelievably approachable, warm, welcoming and ready to offer advice and to share their happiness and satisfaction in choosing to retire at a Stockland Village. The resident's sell the benefits of living in a village, better than I ever could!”
It’s easy for Sarah to sell the benefits of life at Latrobe, because she truly believes in the community and its benefits.
