La Trobe Wildlife Sanctuary
Location: Agora Walkway Bundoora
Phone: 03 9479 1206
Wow, all of this in my neighbourhood?! The La Trobe Wildlife Sanctuary is a natural environment that has evolved over fifty years to become one of Victoria’s most unique educational sanctuaries, and it’s practically in your backyard, just through the parklands. Why not take your grandchildren for a guided daytime or twilight tour through one of Melbourne’s hidden treasures – the River Red Gum woodlands and wetlands. The grandchildren can discover fury friends in their natural environment such as the red pump parrot, eastern grey kangaroo or the short-beaked echidna. Or, why not bring the sanctuary home with you? Purchase one of their nesting boxes to provide habitat to the native wildlife of the area. You could even get an arts & crafts session together in the community centre to assemble and decorate the flat packs.

How fortunate we are at Latrobe that only 3.5km away is the gorgeous Bundoora Park, offering 180 hectares of parklands set in natural bushland beside the Darebin Creek and rising up to Mount Cooper. Enjoy a scenic drive taking you through the upper reaches, where you can see commanding views of the city and countryside. Take in the stunning waterways, host a BBQ or take your grandchildren for a play on the playground. Or, pick up some friends and pack a picnic!
Escape the suburbs and dine waterside in the Bundoora Park Café with a cuppa and scone (with jam and cream of course) or a longer lunch with friends. With indoor and outdoor seating, you can keep a close eye on the kangaroos and emus that do enjoy dining with the local community! Ah, to be so connected to nature!

You can start your day warming up your arms and ‘giggles’ on the driving range, followed by a ‘serious’ round of mini golf with your family and friends. What a great day making memories, keeping active and putting that smile on your dial with a few laughs. Don’t be too quick to head off after your round as the café team don’t want you to go home hungry after working (or should we say playing) so hard. Their café offers a tasty range of bites and beverages for all to enjoy. Make sure you check out what’s on each day so you don’t miss out on one of their specials like Beer & Bash or Happy Hour. Hey fellas, free on Tuesday night to head down to Latrobe Golf Park to hit a bucket of balls and have a beer for $20?!
