The highly anticipated Mernda train line will begin services from Sunday 26 August.

The $600m extension will be completed six months ahead of schedule, with services due to start later this month. Building on the existing South Morang line which was extended from Epping in 2012, it will provide more transport options to residents in Melbourne’s growing northern corridor. The Victorian government expects the service to cater up to 8,000 commuters each day.

The train line extension includes three new stations: Middle Gorge, Hawkstowe and Mernda. The three stations will be connected by a shared user path and open spaces.

Located at the junction of Bridge Inn and Plenty Roads, the new Mernda train station will be serviced by various bus routes and will be located across from the upcoming Mernda Junction shopping centre.

For residents at Mernda Retirement Village, the bus stops outside the gates and at the local shopping centre provide access to the new station.

“It’s been great to watch the infrastructure enhancements taking place around us. In addition to the new train station, Plenty Road is being upgraded, there’s an upcoming town centre – there’s so much going on!” says Jane Flynn, Sales Professional and Mernda resident.

“Mernda is definitely a great place to live. It’s in a great location with links to the city and regional Victoria. It has so much open space and heritage-listed trees, everything nature has to offer whilst being close to so many amenities, what more could you want?”
