He who plants a garden, plants happiness (Chinese Proverb). This is a sentiment shared amongst the many residents and friends of Oak Grange Retirement Village who admire the immaculate gardens which are constantly ablaze with colour.

Oak Grange Village Manager, Emile Nicholas has seen many gardens in his past across retirement villages and five-star hotels and resorts and he ranks the gardens at Oak Grange the best by far.   Originally from the UK, Emile says, “Our gardens at Oak Grange remind me of the old English Country Gardens from back home.  It is all a result of the hard work and dedication from our resident Gardening Committee led by our Village Maintenance Officer.”

There is extensive research that talks to the mental and physical benefits of gardening for older Australians, however Emile says it’s much more than that.

“As well as maintaining these beautiful gardens, it’s also about being involved, watching something you have planted, watered, fed and looked after, develop into something of beauty.  For many residents it’s like when they raised their child. At the end of the day you get so much more back, than what you have given.”
