Meet Lana Ashard, our Sales Professional at Plenty Valley Retirement Village, Victoria.

Why did you choose to work in Retirement Living?

After spending around 10 years in the residential division selling land and house and land packages I was after a new challenge. Retirement living allows you to really understand your customers’ needs and journey. I like the fact that we’re not just selling a product but a lifestyle too.

What does a day in the life of a Sales Professional look like?

It’s a very diverse role which I enjoy- everything from open for inspections, running tours and appointments to more of an operational role and event management.

How would the residents describe you?

Likes a laugh and approachable.

What is the biggest change you have seen in a residents’ life?

I’ve seen time and time again residents gain their independence back. All of a sudden they have a social life, they’re able to get to the shops on the village bus and are less reliant on family members. They’re happier within themselves and it shows.

Do you have any advice for someone thinking about moving into a retirement village?

Step one would be to come in and take a look. Ask to meet some of the residents to see how they feel about living in the village. Also take advantage of the trial stay, free no obligation way of trying village life with no commitment.

What is one of the biggest misconceptions about making the move to a retirement village?

I have some appointments that still ask about what time they can leave the village and what time they need to be home by, I explain that this is independent living and not aged care.
