Town Centre of the Future Underway!

Stockland is steaming ahead with the much anticipated Birtinya Town Centre masterplan development on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Stockland Group Executive and CEO of Commercial Property, John Schroder hosted Jarrod Bleijie MP, Member for Kawana, Andrew Wallace MP, Member for Fisher and Clr Tim Dwyer, Deputy Mayor, Sunshine Coast Council, on March 14 to formally mark the first stage of the project, the $86 million Stockland Birtinya Shopping Centre.

Located off Kawana Way, directly opposite the world class Sunshine Coast Health Precinct and only a short distance away from the Birtinya Retirement Village and Bokarina Beach, The Birtinya Town Centre is set to become the heart of the Oceanside community.

John Schroder said: “Stockland Birtinya will be a vibrant and thriving town centre and the new urban heart for Oceanside, and will serve a trade area of more than 135,000 local residents.”

“We have taken our time to design a refreshing and progressive ‘oasis-style’ shopping and dining destination that truly brings to life the future of retail, and compliments the high level of social and economic growth within Oceanside and the Sunshine Coast.”

“This new centre will embrace its location with coastal-inspired architectural finishes, extensive landscaping and a relaxed indoor and outdoor atmosphere. Upon completion Stockland Birtinya will offer a great place for convenience shopping, having a coffee or meeting friends for dinner.”

The first stage of the 10,648 square metre centre will feature a flagship Coles and ALDI supermarket, two mini-majors, an open-air, late night dining precinct, some 30 specialty retailers and 522 car parking spaces. Construction is on schedule with the centre walls to be erected in the coming weeks and the first stage to open by the end of 2018.

The Stockland Birtinya Shopping Centre forms part of the broader $830 million Birtinya Town Centre masterplan development. Across an area of 18 hectares, Stockland will also develop a new civic plaza, walkable waterfront and open green space - all integrated with entertainment, commercial, health related research facilities and high density residential.

The entire Birtinya Town Centre development is estimated to generate more than 550 jobs during construction and more than 14,600 new full time jobs on completion.

Stockland has also committed to a 5 Star Green Star As Built rating for the new Stockland Birtinya Shopping Centre, featuring solar panels and end of trip facilities among other sustainability measures.
