Our stores, our stories

Behind each of your favourite stores are passionate, hardworking people who welcome you to take part in their story, every time you walk in. Here, we introduce you to the faces behind some of your favourite Stockland retailers. Learn about the history of their business, the products and services they offer and what they love about their local community.

Meet Damien, Birtinya Cellars

1. Tell us about your store? What products, services or experiences do you offer?
Birtinya Cellars Cellarbrations is a local family owned bottle shop. We have most of the everyday favourites but our clear point of difference is that we specialise in local and Australian made craft products. We have a huge range of craft beer that we keep refrigerated unlike our big competitors, with one fridge entirely dedicated to the best the Sunshine Coast has to offer. Our amazing range of wines heavily features both the most established and up and coming family owned wineries. We are dedicated to sourcing the most amazing tasting wines at the best possible price. This theme also flows through to our range of spirits where you can find some of the best distilleries in Australia.

As a family owned local business we believe in providing great customer service and advice. That’s why we have the most knowledgeable staff to help you find exactly wat you are looking for. Not only do we have qualified sommeliers to help guide you through our wine selection, we have trained craft beer gurus and cocktail barmen. This means that we can help you find exactly the right tipple for any situation.

2. What do you love about your store?

I love that we offer tastings every day of the week. We believe that sometimes it can be really important to try before you buy. We are dedicated to finding your next favourite drink and the one after that. So before Covid, customers had the ability to try wines from our wine preservation machine and our spirit bar any day of the week and we also had tastings on every weekend. As we open back up again we will continue this again.

3. What are some unusual customer questions you get?

Can you get me a bottle of Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape, as it is my father’s favourite wine?

Of course we can!

Because we have very good relationships with industry suppliers we will go out of our way to find you any wine, beer or spirit your heart desires. And if we can't find you exactly what you are looking for we will do our best to give you some options to find you something that will be very close.

4. What do you love about your local community?

Whether you talk about the local community from an industry point of view or a general point of view, we love that people want to look after each other. There is a real sense of pride in our local business that not a lot of places have. I feel Sunshine Coasters are very happy to get behind their local business. From an industry point of view, if you talk about the craft breweries, you will see a sense of comraderie that has helped them all stand together as well as stand out within a growing industry. This has made the Sunshine Coast very high on the pedestal when it comes to the best places within Australia to travel and taste craft beer.

5. What drives you and the team to success?

Our passion for flavour, knowledge and the next best thing. Our team are always attending industry tastings and seminars as well as researching and talking with other industry professionals. All this because our guys have a huge passion for great tasting drinks. When you are exposed to all of the amazing people and producers of the industry within Australia it’s hard not to get passionate and want to bring that passion to the people. We have even started our own education/tasting club called ‘All in Good Taste’, where we pass on as much of this knowledge and passion that we can. It’s free to join and enables you to taste and learn with our team and other industry professionals including winemakers, brewers and distillers. At the moment we are meeting up once a week online, but hopefully, we will be able to get back out and meet up in person again very soon.

6. What did you wish customers know before they visit your store?

The biggest thing I would like customers to know is that we are a little family owned company based right here on the Coast. The other thing I would like would be to come into our store with an appetite to try something new. We have a philosophy that we wouldn’t eat the same thing for dinner every night so why should we drink the same thing. We are always looking to get you something new and exciting to drink.
