Meet Michelle, Chippindalls Newsagency (Chippies)
1. What products, services or experiences do you offer?
As a whole, we offer a vast range of products from Homewares, Gift lines for all occasions, School supplies, General Office Stationary, Refreshments, Greeting Cards, the largest range of Magazines in Bundaberg, and of course Lotto and Scratchies.
2. What do you love about your store?
I love to see the shop constantly changing with the seasons, new designs and the new gift lines. The smile on the customers face when they have found what they have been looking for. The return customers that have been coming back year after year, that we have developed a great relationship with. We like to think that we have a good rapport with customers and we endeavour to offer all our services to the community.
3. What do you love about our local community?
As a shop we love the advancement the locals have made in supplying us with local products. Chippindalls are always looking for new and exciting products to stock and we are finding that the customers are loving the local stock lines. Currently we have sourced local Honey, Macadamia Nuts, Candles and Diffusers. In the current times the community are more than happy to buy not only Australian made but are jumping at the chance to buy and support local.
4. What did you wish the customers knew before they visited you?
We wish that people knew how large our range of all stock-lines are, also that they don’t need to go to brand name shops to get the exact item in our shop at a much cheaper price. We also wish that customers don’t just think of Chippindalls as a Newsagency, but as an all-rounder shop that you can be guaranteed to find what you are looking for.
5. What do you love most about your job?
I love the fact that there is constant change, we are busy ad the pace is not for the light-hearted. You develop over the years a personal strength with dealing with the General Public and you learn to read people very easy to know if they are browsers or shoppers. I have had the pleasure of working with so many different personalities over the 19 years I have worked here. But when you get to work in the morning happy and you leave happy, it’s a good place to work - I basically love coming to work because it’s not just a job, it’s just what I know and take pride in.
6. What’s three words that describe your store?
Busy, Inviting and Awesome… but we are biased.
7. How have you coped with the Covid-19 and what are you looking forward to?
Personally, I think our staff have coped quite well with all the adjustments that have been put in place. It took a little bit of getting used to and also getting the customers to break their old habits but in all, it has been okay. We really class our shop as essential and throughout the last 9 weeks customers were finding that we had the essentials like Paper Hand Towels, Toilet Paper and Sanitiser plus also that we kept the shop stocked for all general purchases. With Schools not fully open, our School supplies have helped out so many families who have been home schooling.
We are looking forward to all the shops back open and running, it will be great to see Stockland Bundaberg in full vibrant mode again.
