International Women’s day 2021
International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality.
To mark International Women's Day on March 8 2021 we are celebrating local women in the community and talking to them about how they #ChooseToChallenge.
Community Lifestyle Support (CLS) provides a range of NDIS and allied health services to people living with disability in the Central Queensland Region. They see their role in the community as helping to make life easier and a little more fun. They believe that if they work hard and stay true to their values they can make meaningful contributions to a thriving community that celebrates diversity, embraces equality and inspires creativity.
The MAKI shop based in Stockland Bundaberg, is a new concept that joins the CLS community with local artisans and producers. It celebrates all things vibrant, inclusive and local.
Leonora, tell us about yourself?
I am a 28 year old woman who moved to Bundaberg from Melbourne when I was around 3 years old. I am a mother to a beautiful 8 year old boy, who I absolutely adore and my family means everything to me. I have been working at Community Lifestyle Support Ltd (CLS) for nearly 11 years.
What is your proudest achievement?
My proudest achievement for myself career wise, is looking back to where my career began when I was 17 years old my first position was at CLS was Rosters Officer. I then worked my way through various departments to gain knowledge and upskill myself to get to where I am now; Social Enterprise Manager for Community Lifestyle Support Ltd and CLS Ability Enterprises.
Who is a female role model you look up to?
Although not famous to others, my mum is my role model. She is such a beautiful woman who has instilled strength, self-worth, self-love and resilience into me my whole life.
Why do you celebrate International Women’s day?
I think it is great to have a day for everyone to celebrate achievements of women all around the world, although I believe this should be something that is recognised on a daily basis for all people and all achievements and successes.
You can find Leonora and the wonderful CLS team at the MAKI shop, between OPSM and Mister Minit.
