Queensland’s best retail designs were recognised on Friday 8th of August at the Property Council of Australia’s 2014 Queensland Retail Property Awards including a strong showing from Stockland centres. The Queensland Retail Property Awards recognise excellence in retail properties and professionals throughout the State in the areas of marketing, design and presentation.
The awards were presented in front of a record crowd of retail sector professionals from across Queensland at the Gala Dinner in Brisbane City Hall – the largest attendance since the event’s relaunch in 2008.
First introduced in 2011, the design category seeks to recognise outstanding design, innovation, material selection and social interface in a retail development, extension or refurbishment in the past five years.
In the sub-category for Sub Regional Centres 30,000 square metres to 50,000 square metres, Stockland Gladstone was recognised for the unique design elements, in particular its vernacular architecture which in its structure embraced the industrial context of Gladstone and a material selection that created a sense of warmth and relaxation. The Judges were impressed by the modest and strategic addition which created a more vibrant and dynamic atmosphere for the centre. This optimal design solution resulted in a vibrant street activation and reinforced the existing mall entrance. The Judges commented, ‘it also satisfies the centre’s demand for an alfresco dining precinct and encourages a longer stay for shoppers in a pleasant, social environment.’
Robert Fleming, Development Manager for Stockland Gladstone commended Stockland's internal Design team for delivering an outstanding design that met the project's vision and commercial requirements, along with the Leasing and Centre management teams for their dedication and delivery of a market leading tenancy mix.
