5 nail art trends to switch up your home manicure

Category: fashion and beauty

There’s nothing quite like a fresh manicure and colour to make us feel special. In the past year, nail artists around the globe have stepped up their game and perfected a range of new trends, and luckily for us, they are surprisingly easy to nail at home. While classic reds and nudes will always have a place in our hearts, statement nails are this year’s go-to because let’s be honest, we’re all looking for an excuse to brighten our days.

From multicoloured pastels to bold summer fruits – we’ve found this season’s most stylish nail trends that you can easily conquer at home with a few little products from your local Stockland Green Hills.

Get creative with nail polish

Gone are the days of single colour nails, with 2021 showing us all that rainbow nails are a total vibe. The mismatched nail look is a trend that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, but if you’re not bold enough to try a different colour on each finger, choosing one ‘statement’ nail on each hand is just as fun. It works great with pastels or similarly toned colours and is a good first step if you’re dipping your toes into the world of statement nails for the first time.

If multicoloured nails aren’t enough – why not try your hand at nail polish art? Kmart has a great range of nail art tools to help you create detailed, fine designs, lines, dots or marbling effects to your nails.

After being on-trend for decades, the French tip has had a 2021 makeover and we’re here for it. The white tips are out, and instead, the new colour palette is only as limited as your imagination – experiment with bright neons like Sally Hansen’s Miracle Gel in Pink Tank.

While you may cringe to think of the old sticky tape trick from the 90s, nail art geniuses have discovered that a dollop of nail polish on a silicone makeup blender (like the one from Mecca Maxima), means all you need to do is gently push the tip of your nail into the silicone. The result? Perfect French tips every time.

Brighten things up with nail art

As the weather warms up, so do our colour palettes. With the richer colours of winter and autumn making way for neons and fun summer brights – think fruity shades with bright pops of watermelon hues, or fresh citrus yellows and oranges.

Go a little further by embracing summer-themed nail art like fruits and floral motifs atop either bare bases, or bright colours for the more adventurous. We’re loving the daisy nail trend, which can be easily achieved by mastering nail art painting yourself – or with Kmart’s stick-on daisies.

Nourish your nails with a little at-home TLC

While we’re all missing our visits to the salon and our cuticles may be suffering a little at home, it’s important to nourish our hands (and feet) with some TLC.

If your nail art skills are leaving a bit to be desired, using gentle polish removers and an at-home manicure between practice sessions will leave your nails in the best shape possible, and leave you feeling fresh and pampered.

After a short soak in warm water to soften the skin, a rich moisturiser like Mecca Maxima’s nourishing hand cream will leave your skin silky smooth and nails primed for more nail art fun. For a real at-home salon experience, finish off with Essie’s Apricot Oil Cuticle Treatment.
