Bamboo plates and cutlery
If you’ve got a family BBQ or winter dinner party coming up, ditch the disposable plates, cutlery, and cups and go for options made out of bamboo or ceramic instead. That way, you can wash and reuse them.
Helpful tip: during your gathering, write people’s names on their glasses or pop a glass marker/charm on them. This will save you from having to do more washing up!
Plastic straws may seem small and harmless, but they quickly accumulate in our landfills and oceans. Invest in a reusable straw, such as a stainless steel one. They’re durable and easy to clean after each use. You could even pop one in your bag in case you need it when you’re out-and-about.
Made from 100% cotton, calico bags are all-natural and environmentally friendly. Whether you’re out running errands or heading to the grocery store, calico or cotton string bags are perfect for carrying produce and other groceries. They’re also washable and easily fit into your bag. Not to mention, they make for great gifts. If someone has a birthday in July, pick one up for them!
If you’re a regular coffee or tea drinker who finds themselves buying too many takeaway cups, take your own reusable cup in. Depending on the café or business, you might score a few cents off your order!
Reusable drink bottles
One of the world’s most commonly wasteful items is plastic water bottles. Start using your own reusable drink bottle, no matter if it’s made out of plastic or steel. As long as it can be used over and over, you’re doing your part.
Helpful tip: steel bottles keep water cooler for longer and warm drinks warmer. There are plenty of great options at your local Stockland.
Packing the kids’ lunches or your own for the week ahead? Swap out the cling wrap for beeswax wraps instead. These are great, reusable wax-lined cloths that keep your food protected and fresh.
Containers and Tupperware
Good-quality, airtight storage containers that are microwave and freezer-friendly perfectly store food, liquids, dressings, and more. Invest in a few of these that come in a range of sizes to accommodate everyone’s meals.
Helpful tip: to avoid buying food in single-use packages for your kids’ school lunches, such as yoghurt cups, buy in bulk and portion the food into reusable pouches. This works perfectly for yoghurt, custards, and anything else that can be bought in bulk.

Bamboo toothbrushes are a great eco-friendly alternative to plastic toothbrushes. With the exception of the bristles, in most cases, bamboo toothbrushes can be composted, helping to reduce the amount of landfill plastic toothbrushes create.
Many aerosol and roll-on deodorants contain chemicals that can be harsh on your skin. Thankfully, there are dozens of plastic-free, non-toxic deodorant options available, including ones that come in convenient push-up tubes which are ideal for when you're on-the-go. Not to mention, most of them are plastic and single-use!
Typically made from stainless steel or brass, electric shavers are an eco-friendly option that can last you for years to come. They also don’t require any water or shaving cream, saving you extra money in the long run, too.
Remember, no matter how minor you think your sustainable actions may be, each one makes a difference! We hope these reusable products gave you some inspiration to help kickstart your plastic-free journey. And you’ll find each of the products mentioned at your local Stockland centre.
