International Women’s day 2021

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality.

To mark International Women's Day on March 8 2021 we are celebrating local women in the community and talking to them about how they #ChooseToChallenge.

Abby, tell us about yourself?

I live in Hervey bay with my 3 children and Husband. I started my business when I was 19 - with absolutely no idea but a whole lot of passion. I see the goodness in everyone, and my friends and family tell me I live with rose coloured glasses on. I really love finding a solution to any problem and helping women feel their absolute best.

What is your proudest achievement?

Oooh this is a tricky one, I have been lucky enough to have so many amazing moments in my life; Winning Fraser Coast Young Achiever in 2018 and Winning Australian Beauty Industry Awards, then taking out Queensland best beauty salon in 2019 which was a significant accomplishment.
I also wrote all the policies and procedures for my salon, so that was a pretty big achievement and something that took years to complete and allowed me to then open a second location. Plus creating my own natural skincare label.

So many career highlights and hopefully many more to come!

Who is a female role model you look up to?

Most of my role models come from my friends and family and who I interact with on a daily basis. Being in the beauty industry you get the opportunity to really connect one on one with clients and the stories they have, obstacles they have had to overcome which really push me to want to create something amazing with my own life.

Why do you celebrate International Women’s day?

I think it’s important to acknowledge where women have been and remind girls coming through what we are capable of.
The only thing stopping you is you.
