Dads of Point Cook: Grant

In the lead up to Father’s Day, we wanted to get to know some of the awesome dads who work at our centre. We asked 14 dads to share their stories with us & now we’re sharing them with you.

We caught up with dad of three, Grant, the Inventory Manager at Woolworths

What’s the best Father’s Day gift that you have received?:
There’s been so many! I probably think a bookmark that my daughter made when she was in kinder, which I still have & it’s sitting in a book on the bookshelf. That’s the one that I remember the most & I still use it.

What has surprised you about being a dad?
That’s an interesting question. I suppose you change when you become a father. You start to become less self-centered & care for others above yourself. I didn’t realize before I had children that’s how it’s going to be, so that would be the biggest change.

The best piece of parenting advice that you’ve received?
Let the kids learn for themselves. Let them experience the world & don’t do the ‘helicopter parenting’ thing. If they do make mistakes, then you encourage, they’ve got to see the world for themselves. So let them be, let them become who they are. Then you guide & steer after instead of man handle & manipulate beforehand.

What’s your biggest hope for your kids?
That they’re happy & successful in life. And that’s whatever they choose is their happiness & their success. That’s all I could wish for.

Who’s a dad that you admire?
My own father. He worked very hard to be a good father & to bring us up correctly. That’s something I admire in him, he tried very hard.
