In the lead up to Father’s Day, we wanted to get to know some of the awesome dads who work at our centre. We asked 14 dads to share their stories with us & now we’re sharing them with you.
We caught up with Rai from Target , Dad of 2.
What’s the best Father’s Day gift that you have received?:
I think it was 3 years ago I got a mug from my sons. It was a ‘Love you Dad’ mug, which was really cool. But it came with a card, the boys were only little & they’d scribbled all over the card. It was just nice, the first time they’d put the effort into ‘writing’ in the card & giving me something, I quite enjoyed that.
What has surprised you about being a dad?
How much washing needs to be done! I can’t get over it- everyday, washing, washing, washing, ironing, ironing, ironing. It’s just full on.
The best piece of parenting advice that you’ve received?
I can’t remember who told me, but (it’s) something that stuck with me the whole time. Your kids will, quite literally, copy everything you do. So the advice was you want to make sure that you’re giving them the right example, doing the right things, the right behaviours, cause they will just go ‘yep bang dad just did that so I’m gonna go do that’.
What’s your biggest hope for your kids?
I don’t expect them to be rocket scientists, but I just want them to grow up to be good kids, respectful of people & do the right thing basically.
Do you have a good Dad joke?
I’ve got a couple of them actually, my favourite one is:
What do you call a cow with no legs?
There’s the other one, What do you call a man with no arms & no legs in the ocean?
