Making the world brighter, 1 cupcake at a time

Kate started her own business in 2016 selling cupcakes she baked in her mothers' kitchen in Point Cook. Three years later, Kate now runs two stores with a third on the way continuing to provide customers with her signatuire cupcakes, including Rainbow, Salted Caramel, Triple Chocolate and Jam Donut, plus more flavours and newer products. Tell us a bit about you and your store?

I started baking as a hobby – learning as a child from my Grandma Joan. After baking cakes and cupcakes for many years at home, and discovering that this is where my passion lies, I built my flagship store in Point Cook in 2017.  
We specialise in delicious moist mini cupcakes, macarons, biscuits, and cake pops. We also offer custom cakes for wedding and other special occasions. We also have vegan and gluten-free options.
To date, our Point Cook store continues to be successful and I have added seasonal pop-up locations around the Melbourne area (QV Melbourne, Watergardens, Waurn Ponds).
I also have partnerships with corporate and wholesale clients including Bank of Melbourne, Crown Casino, Myer, NAB, Optus, Telstra and many more.
The continuous success of the business is rooted to our commitment to provide excellent products - baked fresh daily using top quality ingredients – and outstanding customer service.
My vision is to build more stores within Melbourne and franchises in all of Australia and continue to be a part of our customers’ special occasions with our beautiful and delicious baked creations.
I would also love to continue setting up pop-up stores to go around and meet people and share my products with them. 

How did you get started? What inspired you to open a store? 

Baking has always been my passion and when I was 18, I wanted to earn some extra money while still studying by selling my homemade cupcakes at our local farmer's market. I made a few hundred dollars on that day and word of mouth quickly spread and soon I was inundated with orders and requests via my Facebook page. 
Shortly enough, I was baking 5000 cupcakes a week to keep up with the demand. Our house was overtaken by my baking and it was at that point that I decided I needed to open my own store to take this business to the next level. I didn't expect it would get this big and I am extremely grateful for my family's support and all the customers who have been with me since the beginning. When I realise there was such a demand for my products, I knew it is time to take the next step and make this passion of mine into a career.

What is your favourite flavour cupcake you have created? 

I love creating 'all things fruity' so my favourite are mini jam donuts and mini lemon cupcakes

What is your top tip for baking the perfect cupcake every time?

Eyes on the oven all the time! ;p Follow the recipe as closely as possible and of course, do everything with love and joy ♥
