On Tuesday 7 March, Stockland Shellharbour hosted the 4th annual ‘Dance Away Dementia’ event supporting the awareness and prevention of dementia. It was a large, colourful community event with Uniting Elanora residents and local school students dancing a choreographed routine together outside Lamerton house.
Walter de Ruyter from Uniting Elanora explains that ‘experts have agreed that exercise and movement – including dancing – can help prevent and slow the onset of dementia. We hope to get the message out that dementia isn’t inevitable and people can reduce their chances of being affected by it.’
‘Dance Away Dementia’ is part of an ongoing campaign to encourage people to get active and help prevent the condition. Stockland is a strong supporter of this event and is working to make Stockland Shellharbour dementia friendly.
