Fashion stylist Jana Keane (Refine Your Style) shares her top tips for Autumn/Winter fashion trends in 2021 for Tropical North Queensland.
Ok, so pleats are nothing new, from the Vikings to Scottish kilts and 1920 evening wear, pleats have played a vital role in fashion history. But TV series “The Crown” has reinvigorated our obsession with Princess Diana, and the pleated skirt was a favourite of the Princess. It is a classic and timeless piece, and in the right pleat size and length is universally flattering. You will find it everywhere and in many colour options including the ombre versions that gives it a modern up-to-date twist.
Stylist Tip: Make sure that the size of the pleat is in proportionate with your bone structure - fine bone structure fine pleat, broader bone structure broader pleat.

The Bridgerton effect is in full swing this year, and is perhaps helped by the fact that after a year in loungewear we want to look “like a lady”. Feminine is in. Break out the florals, ruffles, and buttons lines, all Lady Bridgerton approved of course. If you are on the hunt for your ‘Duke Of Hastings’ or if you have already found him, why not throw on a feminine frock for date night.
Stylist Tip: If floral isn’t your thing, brands like Country Road are doing feminine without the floral.

From Ultra Feminine to the ultimate feminist statement. Currently on-trend, possibly due to the changing of the guard in the USA, Suffragette White
inspired suiting is all the rage again. The women of the Suffragette political movement of the early 1920s dressed in head-to-toe white, as a sign of purity, virtue and femininity. Getting their message across was their main concern so they dressed in the style of the times, but they made their statement in colour.
Suffragette White is an elegant trend and can take you from day-to-night.
Stylist Tip: If bright white isn’t your colour, go for antique white.

As Neutral as Switzerland
Head-to-Neutral is a common trend and it is timeless and classy. It is back on-trend for Autumn/Winter, but bare in mind there are a lot of neutral options so make sure the neutral you choose is complementary to your skin tone.
Stylist Tip: If you have high contrast colouring (light skin/dark hair) this trend is best avoided as it doesn’t have enough contrast and will make you a “wallflower”.

Leather is lux, durable, highly versatile and sustainable. This season is all about lux leather from an elevated biker jacket to midi length leather skirts or the ever sexy leather pants. Wardrobe statement pieces that are also staples, tick and tick. If leather doesn’t fit your ethos, there are many vegan leather options to choose from.
Stylist Tip: If you have a warm undertone, look for burgundy, tan or brown options rather than the classic black.
