Bai Tapau

To celebrate local Indigenous artists, a gallery art wall has been created in partnership with The Cultural Centre at Stockland Townsville. Meet local artist Stephen J Oliver, and find out about his work below.

Wared Bai Tapau is an inspirational artist based in Townsville. Her family lives in Mer (Murray) Island which is in the Eastern Torres Straits.

Bai attended Townsville State High school, she is the oldest of nine children as a young girl she would paint and draw on cardboard or anything she can find. Now her artworks are on gift cards.

Her works are currently displayed at the Big Eye Arts & Cultural Centre Townsville, and over the years has had works at CIAF (Cairns Indigenous Art Fair) working with Umbrella Studio Townsville. She currently attends the Blak Art Markets in Flinders Street at the Art Centre every fortnight.

Her Artwork reflects the beauty of the islands and the reefs that surround it by blending in a contemporary perspective with traditional designs.
