AW21 Fashion and Homewares Trend Report

Category: fashion and beauty

Welcome to the autumn winter season where fashion and homewares thrive! We’re very excited here at Stockland to see the windows being lined with all the latest trends to inspire us for a mini wardrobe and interiors edit. With a cool combination of colour, the ‘it’ print of the season, the rewilding trend, and a refreshing take on home décor – our fashion trend report will not only uncover our picks of the season, but will help you learn how to style them, too. And you’ll find everything mentioned (and more) at your local Stockland centre.

Cool combinations

Various Women's Fashion items

With cool combinations of blue and indigo sweeping the autumn winter fashion ranges in 2021, we have good reason to believe this was influenced by the previous Pantone Colour of the Year – classic blue. Let’s be frank, we never got to enjoy it to its full extent! And now with rich shades of indigo and beautiful baby blues coming through for the cooler seasons, we’ll show you how to style them and easily incorporate them into your existing wardrobe.

How to wear it

As one of the most versatile colour palettes, varying shades of blue pair wickedly well with neutrals and suit most complexions. And while it may be an autumn winter trend, it can easily be styled with your existing pieces. For a daytime look, a soft blue blouse tucked loosely into a tapered pair of mum jeans and finished with a mule will be your go-to. Or dress head-to-toe in indigo for a chic workwear look – we love the colour-blocked suit from Forever New! Put a cool edge on it with white sneakers and oversized shades. This hue also makes for great accessories, so you can enjoy the trend without it being front-and-centre of your fashion choices.

Plaid, please

Various Winter Women's Fashion items

Get ready to square-up your autumn winter fashion game, Stockland shoppers!
The star of the season, plaid, is having a big moment – but it isn’t the first time it’s appeared in our trend reports. Checked prints have been a fashion favourite on the runway for years, so much so that they could be considered a staple. Only this year, its influence could be put down to the cottagecore trend that took hold of our summer wardrobes. Heritage-style clothing is rooted in the classics but for a modern twist, check out our styling tips below.

How to wear it

For the fashion-forward in our community who love a neutral but want to incorporate some spice into their look, invest in a plaid blazer or classic cut coat. It’s great for layering over a white button-up and jeans or matching pant. Or, for a preppy autumn winter look, reach for a plaid skirt – we’re loving the one from Sportsgirl – and pair with a ribbed skivvy, boots, and top-handle handbag. At the end of the day, the key to styling plaid is to keep it as the statement piece. You could even go for something as simple as a plaid bucket hat to utilise the trend. Either way, plaid is a timeless cool season staple that you’ll wear for years to come.

Various Winter Men's Fashion items

There’s been a lot of buzz around the term ‘rewilding’ in 2021 – an expression used to describe reconnecting with the natural world and nature. So, it comes as no surprise that all facets of our lives – including fashion – have taken cues from our desire for the great outdoors. At your local Stockland centre, you’ll find men’s fashion has been dominated by outdoor-wear and all terrain-inspired pieces, including hiking boots, puffer jackets, windbreakers, and jogger pants.

How to wear it

To nail this trend, begin with a hiking boot. Cool staple footwear like the Timberland waterproof boot will elevate any outfit into the rewilding category. From there, a puffer vest, plus a bomber jacket or windbreaker in khaki or camel tones should be your pick. The smart solution – in many ways – is to match your outdoor-wear with different shades of earthy tones. But don’t be afraid to mix it up either! Brights like yellows and electric blues are welcome additions to your autumn winter wardrobe and will stylishly complement your neutral colour palette. Think: a black puffer vest layered over a vibrant yellow jumper, as styled by Gazman.

No more neutrals

Various Homeware Items

In 2021, we’ve seen a welcome burst of colour splashed onto the scene not only in our fashion, but our homewares, too. This autumn winter, give your space an uplifting refresh with a burst of colour in your décor. This isn’t to say you need to replace your existing neutral furniture – it’s a staple for a reason! But you can introduce some subtle (or not so subtle) vibrant elements to your home with little-to-no effort!

How to style it

Beginning in the heart of the home, the kitchen, move your traditional glassware to the back of the cabinet for now and make way for coloured pieces. Not only do they look fantastic on display, but your next dinner party is going to look a whole lot brighter with some beautiful, vibrant tableware peppering your staple white linen tablecloth. The range from Bed Bath N’ Table is our pick. Moving into the bathroom, we can’t get enough of the cheeky, colourful bathmats from Adairs. Immediately brightening up the space, you’ll start every day with a smile. And in the living room, gorgeous abstract candles and vases in various shapes and colours are an easy swap in, but will make such a difference to the feel of the room.
