Category: home and DIY

Now that the new season is here, there is no better time to give your home a zjoosh! With autumn rolling in it brings cooler mornings and longer nights, along with a whole new set of trends in interior design. As those cosy throws and thick doonas are coming out of storage, you’ll want to elevate your space with the latest décor and furniture pieces that are trending for 2022. We’ve done all the groundwork for you, researching everything from colourways and furniture to small décor items to give you the ultimate guide of what’s hot for AW. Take a scroll through our top five trends that will be dominating the homewares scene this year. All that’s left to do is pop by your local Stockland centre to pick out your favourite pieces!

Ahead of the curve

When it comes to interiors this season, boxy shapes and sharp lines are out, with soft, sculptural curves reigning supreme. You can spot this trend in everything from architecture, with rounded archways and contoured designs, all the way to furniture and décor items such as circular armchairs and wavy vases. This year we’re seeing a continual shift to more tranquil, serene spaces which align perfectly with this trend. The soft lines bring a sense of ease and calm to a space, particularly in these neutral hues of cream, blush, and sage green. This trend is innately sculptural, so whether it be a statement piece of furniture or a small décor item such as a pillar candle or table lamp, incorporating this trend into your space will ensure an air of relaxed sophistication – making your abode curated yet calm.

Go alfresco

Although the winter months bring around the cooler temperature, we Aussies know outdoor entertaining is an all-year affair! Elevated outdoor areas are becoming a priority in interior design this year, making sure gardens, patios, and verandas are getting all the love they deserve! Outdoor furniture and landscaping are becoming more refined and stylised as we see our back yards become true extensions of our interior décor style. For AW22 we’re channelling our wanderlust into Mediterranean motifs with Greek and Italian influences evident in our tablescapes and outdoor settings. Citrus fruits, paired with timber serving ware and terrazzo features exude that elegant sense of relaxed Italian dining. And don’t forget about a quality barbecue or fire pit to add a final flourish to your idyllic outdoor entertaining space!

A touch of luxe

The relationship between the fashion and interior worlds has always been evident, with trends often crossing over the two. With this trend, the beautiful luxe fabrications we enjoy in AW fashion are popping up in our homewares too. We’re relishing in the buttery soft leathers, faux furs, and plush velvets that are common to the AW season! Not only do they make the perfect AW fashion pieces, but the easy and simple finishing touches elevate your home for the season ahead. Just as a beautiful gold earring can finish off any outfit, touches of gold are a perfect way to add a hint of luxury to your home quickly and affordably. A gold cutlery set, candle, or mirror are the simple statement pieces to update your space with a touch of luxury this AW.

Retro revival

Feeling nostalgic? Then this trend is one is for you! Paying homage to the 60s, 70s, and 80s, a nod to retro styles is taking off this season in homewares. Playing into the fun and vibrant styles of these decades, this trend is perfect for those who enjoy some colour and quirks in their styling. You’ll have noticed this trend coming up over the last few years with the rise of the bar cart, tinted glassware, and rounded furniture – all of which offer a chic blast from the past while remaining thoroughly modern and on-trend. 2022 will only continue to enjoy the retro revival as we bring those touches of nostalgic fun into our spaces.

Earthly treasures

Our obsession with bringing the outdoors indoors is only set to soar through AW this year. Particularly reflected in colour trends, this AW we’re seeing a huge uptick in clay, khaki greens and chocolate. This trend is all about bringing the peacefulness of nature into your interiors through colourways and textures. Materials such as timber, wicker, and sandstone are popping up across all elements of interior design, from flooring and cabinetry to bathroom accessories and dinnerware. This trend leans into a perfectly imperfect approach with items being raw and bespoke, and styling being effortless and not overly curated. When it comes to shopping for this trend, we particularly love an ode to Australian flora showing up in our stores!
