It’s true that there’s nothing more magical than a great book. For children, reading is the foundation of so many things in their life, from learning and education to bringing them comfort, happiness, mystery and fun. Books can fuel a young child’s imagination, spark their curiosity, encourage bonding and inspire a lifelong commitment to reading. It’s a hobby that you really can’t put a price on.
If your little one is captivated by storybooks and all the wonder they contain, we’ve got a selection of costume ideas to help them celebrate Book Week in 2020. From unicorns to elephants and everything in between, it’s time to get creative with your costumes!
Peter Rabbit Costume
As far as classic book week costumes go, Peter Rabbit is a longstanding crowd favourite. This adorable costume is easily achieved with a simple headband, a few pieces of felt, and some craft glue.
Team the rabbit ears with a blue shirt, beige pants, and a few carrots for good measure.
Paddington Bear Costume
Another longstanding favourite when it comes to book characters, Paddington Bear is a quick and easy costume option for book week. Starting with a simple blue raincoat, red gumboots and red felt hat, all that’s left is Paddington’s trusty suitcase.
For this, all you need is a box, a permanent market, some brown paper, black duct tape, a piece of rope (for the handle) and a few gift tags to use as luggage tags.
Thelma the Unicorn Costume
It’s every little girl’s dream to be a Unicorn, right? So for this years’ book week, why not create some magic with your little one and transform her into Thelma the Unicorn?
To put this costume together, all you’ll need is a headband with a Unicorn horn, a fairy skirt, a few stick-on jewels for her cheeks, and a touch of glitter for extra sparkle.
Dumbo the Elephant Costume
A truly iconic children’s book character, Dumbo is another great costume option for book week. And the best part about this particular costume is you can be as creative as you like.
If you have the time, you could put your DIY skills to the test and create some elephant ears, or perhaps you want to keep it simple and use an elephant onesie like we have here.
